Introduction
Welcome to Calverse ("we," "us," or "our"). We are deeply committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data with transparency and respect. This Privacy Policy is designed to inform you in detail about how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard the information you provide when you use our mobile and web application (collectively, the "Service").
Our mission is to provide an intuitive, affordable, and effective health and fitness platform, especially tailored for the Indian community. We understand that health data is incredibly personal and sensitive. Your trust is the bedrock of our Service, and this policy outlines our unwavering commitment to protecting it. By creating an account or using Calverse, you consent to the data practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We adhere to the principle of data minimization, meaning we only collect information that is essential to provide and improve our Service. The data we collect can be broken down into the following categories:
a. Information You Voluntarily Provide to Us
- Account Registration Data: To create your Calverse account, we require your name and email address. Your email address serves as your unique identifier and the primary channel for important communications, such as password resets and service announcements. Your password is never stored in plain text; it is securely hashed using industry-standard algorithms.
- Personal Profile & Biometric Data: To personalize your health journey, you may provide details such as your date of birth, gender, height, weight, and activity level (e.g., sedentary, lightly active). This information is fundamental for our health calculators to provide accurate metrics like your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE), which form the basis of your personalized calorie and macronutrient goals.
- Health and Fitness Goals: You can set specific goals within the app, such as a target weight or fitness objectives. This information allows the Service to tailor its recommendations and help you visualize your progress over time.
- Dietary and Nutritional Data: This is the core data you generate while using our Service. It includes all food items you log, meals you create, recipes you save, and your water intake. This data is used to populate your dashboard, track your macro and micronutrient consumption, and provide you with insights into your eating habits.
- User-Generated Content: This includes any images of food labels you upload to our Label Analyzer feature. These images are used to perform Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to extract nutritional information for your convenience. It also includes any custom food items or recipes you create and save to your personal database.
- Communications Data: If you contact us for support, provide feedback, or respond to surveys, we will collect the information contained in your correspondence. This is used exclusively to address your inquiry, improve our Service, and enhance customer support.
b. Information We Collect Automatically Through Your Use of the Service
- Usage and Interaction Data: We collect anonymized data about how you interact with our Service. This includes which features you use most frequently, the duration and timing of your sessions, and your navigation paths within the app. We analyze this data in aggregate to understand user behavior, identify popular features, diagnose usability issues, and guide our future development efforts. This data is not linked to your personal identity. -
- Device and Technical Information: We may collect non-personally identifiable technical information about the device you use to access Calverse, including the device model, operating system version, and app version. This information is crucial for troubleshooting bugs, ensuring compatibility, and optimizing the app's performance for different devices.
- Crash Reports and Analytics: In the event of an app crash, we automatically receive an anonymized report that includes technical information about the state of the app and your device at the time of the crash. This is vital for our developers to identify, reproduce, and fix stability issues promptly.
2. How and Why We Use Your Information
Our use of your information is purposeful and strictly limited to the legitimate interests of providing and enhancing the Service. The legal basis for processing your data is your consent and our need to fulfill our contractual obligation to provide the Service to you.
- To Provide, Maintain, and Personalize the Service: Your personal and health data is the engine that powers Calverse. We use your biometric data to set accurate health targets. Your food logs are used to generate detailed charts and reports on your dashboard. Your usage patterns help us tailor the user experience to be more intuitive and effective for you.
- For Research, Development, and Improvement: We use anonymized and aggregated data to improve our Service. For example, aggregated search queries help us identify gaps in our Indian food database, allowing us to expand it. Analysis of feature usage helps us decide where to invest our development resources. This is always done with data that has been stripped of all personal identifiers.
- To Communicate with You: We use your email address to send essential transactional messages, such as account verification, password resets, subscription confirmations, and critical updates regarding the Service's functionality or terms. We will not send you marketing communications without your explicit consent.
- To Ensure Security and Prevent Fraud: We monitor usage patterns and technical data to detect and prevent unauthorized access, fraudulent activity, and violations of our Terms of Service, thereby protecting your account and our platform.
3. Data Sharing and Disclosure
Our commitment to your privacy is absolute. We do not sell, rent, lease, or share your personally identifiable information with third parties for their marketing purposes. Our data sharing practices are limited to the following necessary circumstances:
- With Third-Party Service Providers: We partner with a small number of trusted third-party companies to perform essential functions. These "sub-processors" are contractually obligated to maintain the confidentiality and security of your data and are prohibited from using it for any purpose other than providing services to us. These include providers for cloud hosting (servers), database management, user authentication, and customer support.
- With AI Service Providers (Google Gemini): To power our innovative Label Analyzer feature, we utilize Google's Gemini API. When you upload an image of a food label, that image is securely transmitted to Google's servers to perform the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) required to extract the ingredient and nutritional information. According to Google's API Data Usage Policies, this data is not used to train their models and is processed temporarily. We do not permanently associate these images with your account on our servers.
- For Legal Reasons and Harm Prevention: We may disclose your information if we believe in good faith that it is required by law, such as in response to a subpoena, court order, or other legal process. We may also share information if we believe it is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Calverse, our users, or the public.
- In Case of a Business Transfer: If Calverse is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email and/or a prominent notice within the app of any such change in ownership or control of your personal information.
4. Data Security
We employ a multi-layered security strategy to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Our security measures include:
- Encryption: Your data is protected using strong encryption protocols. Data is encrypted "in transit" between your device and our servers using Transport Layer Security (TLS), and "at rest" when it is stored in our databases.
- Access Controls: We enforce strict internal access controls. Our employees and contractors can only access user data on a strict "need-to-know" basis to perform their job functions (e.g., a support agent viewing a support ticket). All such access is logged and audited.
- Password Security and Leak Prevention: We have designed our system to make password leaks impossible. We never store your actual password. Instead, when you create or update your password, it is instantly converted into a secure, irreversible cryptographic hash using a strong, one-way salting and hashing algorithm. This hash is stored, not your password. This means that nobody, not even our own developers, can see or retrieve your password. Even in the highly unlikely event of a database breach, your password remains secure and cannot be reverse-engineered.
- Strict Segregation of Personal Health Data: Your personal profile and biometric data are treated with the highest level of security. This data is encrypted and is only accessible by you when you are logged into your account. Our internal systems and personnel do not have the ability to view or access this identifiable health information. Your personal dashboard and health metrics are for your eyes only.
5. Third-Party Payment Processing
To process payments for our premium subscriptions, we use a secure, third-party payment gateway, Cashfree Payments. We are committed to ensuring the security of your payment information.
- No Storage of Financial Data: Calverse does not collect, receive, process, or store any sensitive financial information such as full credit/debit card numbers, CVV codes, or net banking credentials.
- Direct and Secure Transaction: When you make a payment, your information is entered directly into Cashfree's secure payment environment. This transaction is governed by Cashfree's own stringent security standards and their privacy policy. We encourage you to review their policy for a full understanding of how they handle your data.
6. Your Rights and Control Over Your Data
We believe you should have full control over your personal information. We provide you with the following rights:
- Right to Access and Rectification: You can access and update your account information and health data at any time directly within the app's settings and logs. It is your responsibility to keep this information accurate.
- Right to Erasure (Deletion): You have the right to permanently delete your account and all associated personal data. You can initiate this process by sending a formal request to our privacy-specific email address. Once verified, your data will be permanently and irretrievably deleted from our production systems within a reasonable timeframe.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal data only for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. If you choose to delete your account, we will delete your information as described above. We may retain anonymized, non-personally identifiable data indefinitely for statistical and analytical purposes to continue improving our Service.
8. Children’s Privacy
Our Service is not directed to, nor do we knowingly collect information from, individuals under the age of 13. The health calculations and dietary tracking provided are designed for adults. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will take immediate steps to delete such information and terminate the child's account.
9. Medical and Health Disclaimer
It is crucial to understand the scope and limitations of our Service. Calverse is a health, fitness, and nutritional information tool, not a medical device or healthcare provider.
- Not Medical Advice: The information, suggestions, and data provided by Calverse, including but not limited to AI-powered suggestions from features like the Label Analyzer ("Dr. Calverse"), are for informational purposes only. They are not intended to be, and should not be interpreted as, medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
- Consult a Professional: Always seek the advice of a qualified physician, registered dietitian, or certified personal trainer with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition or your health objectives. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay in seeking it because of something you have read or seen in the Calverse app.
- Data Accuracy: While we strive to maintain a comprehensive and accurate food database, we do not personally verify the nutritional accuracy of every single data point. The information is provided as a general guide. Nutritional values can vary based on brands, preparation methods, and portion sizes.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email, through a notification in the app, or by posting the new policy on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
